The Poem of Creation

The World’s Creation

I
At the beginning God created the sky
And the earth, which was shapeless and desert
And darkness cover’d the abysses close by;
But on the waters, with divine, expert
Zeal, God established that obscurity
Had to be opened to the bright alert!
God, seeing that it was good, called Day the light.
And the darkness instead was named Night.

Then beneath the waters, the firmament
set God, and between them, b’low, the dry land
He also set, whither at same moment,
To any bud and tree He gave command
From seed to be produc’d for nourishment
Of any species, in ground, soil or sand!
After He had named sky, earth and sea
To following duty God had to begin.

Hereafter the lights in the sky He set
Doing the moon and the sun for night and day,
And other signs and stars in dose correct,
for making years and seasons going away,
For the Most High is much more than perfect
And furthermore of this I cannot say!
About this seventh stanza therefore
I will not tell you nothing anymore!

How to Plan a Kid Friendly Picnic

There’s something magical about having a picnic outside.  Everyone seems hungrier and food seems to taste better.  The kids are able to run around freely and burn off energy, and eating with your hands is perfectly acceptable.
So you’ve decided to go on a picnic, now what?
Get the kids involved
Sit down with the kids and plan the picnic menu.  Instead of leaving the food options wide open, only give them a few choices.  For instance, let them choose between chicken wraps or chicken kabobs for their main dish.  Instead of chips and dip, offer them pita chips and hummus or salsa.  Take along some frozen fruit.  By freezing the fruit it helps to keep the rest of the picnic cold and it will thaw by the time you are ready to eat it and it will be a cold, refreshing treat.  Ask them to choose between a couscous salad and a spinach salad.  Take vinaigrette dressing to go on the salad so that it’s safe to eat if it gets warm.  Make up a batch of healthy muffins for dessert.  These can be made any time and will last a long time in the freezer.  Freeze some bottles of water to have for drinks and to help keep the lunch cold.  If the kids have a hand in planning the menu they are less likely to complain about the food.
Now that the menu is decided on talk about what activities they want to do on the picnic.  Decide if you want to bring a Frisbee, soccer ball, kite, baby toys, or something else.  Pack up the toys in a washable tote bag.  It’s comfortable to carry and it’s quick to clean up should something get on it.
The day of the picnic grab the family and give everyone something to be in charge of.  Down to the smallest toddler, everyone can help.  Send the littlest one to grab the picnic blanket.  Ask another child to grab the toys and pack them up in the tote bag.  Have someone grab the cooler or the picnic basket and start gathering up the food and drinks.  Gather up paper plates, napkins, and plastic utensils and bring a trash bag to clean up after yourselves.  Make sure to include some wipes for washing little hands and quick clean ups.
If everyone has a part in planning the big event they will enjoy themselves all the more.  The pride that comes from helping and doing something well will stay with your children.
Once your supplies are gathered, pack up the car and head out to your picnic destination. Find your spot, spread out, and have fun!

The Essence of life - Chapter 1

The Story of Mr Winningoes - 2.
That regrettable question concluded the monologue of our guest, to which we had assisted in religious silence but with long live share. While evoking his memoirs, that I imagined remote for forgetful time in his mind; above all speaking of his mother, in his voice a veiled tone of emotion had appeared. And I don't know if I really perceived a mist in his eyes.
It was matter of an instant: after pouring a glass of water and drinking it with avarice, he fleetingly passed a candid napkin on his face, with which he suddenly cancelled any trace of it. Then he stayed immovably, absorbed in his sad memoirs, or perhaps picking up ideas to continue his story.
George had followed him for the whole time with the chin supported to the closed fists on the edge of the table. Without proffering a word he lit a cigarette and soon after pushed them towards me. With peaceful and indifferent tone, Mr Winningoes took back on his speech.
“The same day I knew by my guardian that I was the only heir of my mother’s estates, and that since the day of her death, whose he had been the honest and prudent administrator , as he would show to me in his account. That man, I had so much hated and blamed, now that his ungrateful charge had come to end, seemed to me good and comprehensive, and his words calmed for a few time my incurable pain. By now, however, I had also to think about my life, and in those places I would never succeeded in shaking off me my sad past. I begged the reverend to continue to administer my goods and I departed, to the discovery of the world.
I travelled at first through the United States, then I went to Canada, Australia, New Zealand. After I visited Europe, without never finding the courage to return to my country. Tired of the European Countries, among which I mostly liked your Italy , I departed to India and finally, always curious of new lands, I went to Africa.
Neither women, neither alcohol, nor drugs not even the vices which I was devoted in those years succeeded in cancelling my bitter memoirs, until one day, while I was sojourning in Kenya, I fell ill, prey of strong fevers. Not a lot, then I gave, to live or die, but the Fate, had evidently prepared, that I survived, so that the programs could be realized, whose I will have the honour and the pleasure to communicate to you. Revealed therefore from the illness, I returned to America aiming however to south, that I had not visited yet.
Going up again homeward, I stayed for a long time in Mexico, that not little fascinated me. By now being satisfied my curiosity of the world, I preferred to go take over again my studies, more strongly and surely than before. I was kin of all: medicine, biology, physics, mathematics, chemistry, hidden sciences, illusionism, magic arts, engineering, electronics, astrology, philosophy, astronomy, sociology, anthropology, theology, ethnology, history, juridical, economic and political sciences and every other thing attracted my mind curious of reaching new knowledge.
During the numerous years of my following study, it happened on me a gradual mutation that flowed, hitherto a short time, in a great, bright revelation. I had realized, deepening on studies that any single subject lost, little by little, until vanish, their contours and that all acquired information met in a bubbly melting pot, to form just one, immense nucleus of knowledge.
Yes, dear friends: our knowledge is an original, total unity. The single disciplines of human knowledge are but the infinitesimally small fragments that the mankind looks hopelessly for recomposing in to the aboriginal unity.
Two were the necessary consequent corollaries to this thrilling discovery. The first one is that the brain of both animal and human beings constitutes, though at a different evolutionary stadium, a microscopic part of the primordial totality. The second is that human thought search, yet in a blind and messy manner, to recompose, at a mental level, the great, primitive explosion, the Big-Bang, through a long and fatiguing marching back, up to the innumerable light years that separate it, from an equal, roaring and powerful implosion. And if you consider that our mind speculates in the space-time as fast as speed-light, this kind of final Big-Imbang will appear less far than any hasty forecast.
The burst of the second world war caught me surprised on this walk of studies and searches.

Bitterly I was forced to consider that human beings pursued their premature end, rather than the search of the truth. But at that time I hadn't understand yet that every human action, even the most iniquitous and bestial, has however its own reason to be done and for me, that war, would have been another fundamental step on the way of comprehension.
When Germany, violating the accords formerly taken, moved war to England, attaching London, I realized that the right moment had come for me to show that the Parnells loved to fight for freedom, under any flag and against whoever oppressed its exercise. I threw to England and enlisted in the Royal Air Force, despite I have to confess you that, after the betrayal of my father, I felt more Irish than English, also considering that in those days, as it is today, Ireland was divided in two parts, with a part still under the British dominion.
After a brief but intense training I was assigned, as I had required myself, having the pre-requisite for it, to pilot’s hunting squads. Between-whiles of my missions I had the opportunity to deeply analyze the causes of those disastrous events. I had been, it is true, in the years immediately preceding the war completely devoted to my studies, in a way that I could call, purely scientific of the phenomenon which stand at the base of the human life, but it was not certainly in the fore coming years of war that we had to seek the reasons and the causes of it. The roots of hate and evil sank their extreme appendixes in the most tangled and lavish meanders of human mind. These deleterious feelings, so inherent to human mind, were to be conceived like the principal causes of that huge bath of blood.
From these premises I arrived to the puzzling conclusion that the leading conceives of the national socialist philosophy were correct: the humanity, in order to be saved, needed a superior race to be raised over the others for leading them to salvation. But German race could not certainly be the chosen one. Not even any other among the existing could be it, because it had to be a race who didn't know, in their hearts but good and love.
With a greater fury than before, I addressed all my energies against the hateful enemy: I challenged death ten, hundred, thousand of times, always defeating the adversary. Plainly, the truth started appearing to me: the contours of my destiny assumed more and more its clean and precise outline. It appeared more and more evident the role that was reserved to me in the history of the world.”

9 Preventable Childhood Injuries

Whenever I hear that a child has fallen out of a window or drowned in a hot tub, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions: sorrow for the family who lost their child in such a tragic way and anger because a child’s death could have been prevented.

According to WakeMed Health & Hospitals, preventable injuries are the number one killer of children ages 14 and under in the United States. The North Carolina based healthcare system asserts that “90% of these injuries could be prevented if families took the simple steps necessary to protect their children.”
The Center for Disease Control reports that over 12,000 children died during the period of 2000-2006 as a result of an unintentional injury.  Parents and nannies must work together to create a safe environment for children to explore and interact with their world. While all safety risks can’t be eliminated, they can certainly be minimized to reduce the likelihood of a child becoming victim to a preventable injury.
Whether you are a parent or a nanny, it’s vital that you are familiar with preventable injuries and take steps to protect the children in your care.
Preventable injuries include:
Crib Suffocation – Infants can become suffocated by crib bumpers, soft bedding, loose blankets, and cuddly toys.  Removing bumpers, using a sleep sack, and putting the baby to bed with nothing else in the crib can help prevent suffocation.
Window Falls – Children can climb onto windowsills and fall out of open windows. Keeping windows closed and locked when not being used for ventilation, installing window guards with a quick release system, removing furniture to discourage climbing to look out of the window, and supervising children when in rooms and areas with windows can help to prevent window falls.
Drowning Deaths – From a few inches of water in a bathtub, to kiddie pools, to in ground swimming pools and large bodies of water, always practice touch supervision when children are in and around water. Never assume someone else is watching your child. Always stay within an arm’s reach to prevent drowning.
Heatstroke – Especially in young athletes, the risk of heatstroke is a real concern. Keeping children hydrated, having planned water breaks, reducing activity when the heat index is high, and cooling overheated children down quickly can help prevent heatstroke in children.
Hyperthermia – As of August 2012, 15 children have already died from hyperthermia as a result of being left in a vehicle, according to the San Francisco University the Department of Geo Sciences website. Preventing deaths from vehicle related hyperthermia is easy: never leave a child in a motor vehicle unattended. Parents and nannies should commit to always checking the backseat before leaving the vehicle.
Burns – “Keep your pot handles turned in” is more than just a catchy public service announcement tune; it’s a way to prevent accidental burns. Keeping hot liquids out of the reach of children, setting your water thermostat to 120 degrees Fahrenheit, and keeping kids away from cooking surfaces and grills can help prevent accidental burns.
Crashes – It’s estimated that 80%-90% or more of car seats are installed wrong or are used incorrectly. A correctly installed and used car seat can help prevent injury or death to children who are in a motor vehicle accident. Always have a certified passenger safety technician check your seat installation to be sure it is being installed and used correctly.
Poisoning – Access to harmful medications and chemicals can be prevented. You should always store medications and chemicals out of sight and out of the reach of children. Store medications in locked boxes and store cleaning supplies in locked cabinets. Many women carry around medication with them. Be sure to keep the pocketbooks of visitors out of reach to children to prevent accidental access.
Lawn Mower Accidents – Many dads consider having junior help mow the lawn a real bonding experience. According to the Children’s Trust of South Carolina, there are 68,000 injuries related to lawn mowers each year. From driving the ride-on mower to helping push the foot propelled mower, each year children die and suffer serious injuries that result in amputation as a result of helping to mow the lawn.
Parents and nannies should work together and be proactive in preventing unintentional injuries. Take regular assessment of the places the child spends the most time and ensure that the appropriate measures have been taken to create an age-appropriate area that promotes free exploration while minimizing the risk of preventable injuries.
Don’t let a child you love become a statistic. While not every serious injury can be prevented, many of them can.

10 Ways Moms Can Pamper Themselves at Home

Being a mom is a 24/7 job, and it should come as no surprise that moms are a pretty hardworking bunch that spend most of their days trying to ensure that their children and family are well taken care of and happy. It’s easy for mom’s personal well-being to get lost in the shuffle of taking care of everyone else; however you have to keep in mind that if you don’t take care of yourself it can be hard to take care of others.  Instead of taking the time out of your busy schedule and spending a bunch of money to pamper yourself outside of the house, check out these 10 ways to pamper yourself in the comfort of your own home:
  1. Pedicures at home save big bucks.  If you’ve ever had a salon pedicure you know they start by putting your feet in a warm bubbly bath.  If you have a foot bath pull it out of the closet and fire it up with some warm water, ¼ cup of baking soda, and a few drops of peppermint essential oil.  The soda will soften the water, the oil will soften your feet, and the peppermint promotes relaxation.  Follow the foot bath by cleaning and trimming your toe nails.  Apply some cuticle remover and push back the cuticles on your toes.  Put your feet back into the bath to give your toes a quick scrub.  Now apply lotion to your feet and legs and give yourself a quick massage.  Use a cotton ball and nail polish remover to clean any lotion or leftover nail polish from your toe nails.  Paint your toe nails with your favorite nail polish and finish with a good top coat.
  2. Make your own facial mask.  Start by mixing 2 tablespoons of super fine sugar with ¼ cup of olive oil.  Apply scrub to face and rub gently in a circular motion to slough off dead skin cells, and then rinse the scrub off with warm water. Now apply a mask made from 1 really ripe banana, 1 tablespoon of honey, and a few drops of orange or lemon juice.  After applying the mask cover your eyes with slices of cucumber to refresh tired eyes and lay back for 15 minutes.  Rinse off the mask with a steaming wash cloth.  This mask is appropriate for oily skin.
  3. Take a break.  One of the best ways to pamper yourself is to know when you need a break.  Being around kids can sometimes take a toll on your patience, and it’s better to grab a few minutes for yourself than to be harsh with the kids.  When the kids go down for a nap take your music player, headphones, and a cup of hot chocolate and find a comfy spot to sit.  Play some relaxing music through the headphones while you enjoy your hot chocolate.  If you find yourself getting drowsy you probably need a quick nap.  Set your timer for 15 minutes and close your eyes.  This power nap will refresh you and you will get your calm back so that you can be a better mom.
  4. Give yourself a manicure.  One thing that busy moms rarely do is paint their fingernails.  You’re in and out of the water so much that it seems like a waste of time.  Start by soaking your nails in some warm soapy water.  Dry off your hands and apply a good quality cuticle remover and allow it to sit for a few minutes.  Put your hands back in the warm soapy water and give your cuticles a brush with a soft nail brush.  Apply some hand lotion to your hands and arms.  After it has soaked in take a cotton ball that has been moistened with nail polish remover and run it over your nails to remove any lotion or old nail polish remnants.  Now apply a base coat to your nails and allow it to dry.  Then apply two coats of a good quality nail polish.  Finish with a quick drying top coat.  Watch some TV and allow your nails to dry completely.  Remember to use rubber gloves when doing household chores so that your nails stay looking fresh for a longer period of time.
  5. Order dinner in every once in a while.  After you put the kids to bed enjoy a quiet romantic meal with your spouse or significant other.  Bring out the candles and order in some nice Italian food or other type that you like.  Turn on some romantic music and enjoy having some down time to chat with your spouse.
  6. Have a glass of wine.  Dr. Oz will tell you that having a glass of red wine every day is great for your health.  Take time after the kids have gone to bed to put your feet up and enjoy a glass of wine and a good movie.  If you don’t drink you can enjoy a nice hot cup of tea to achieve the same effect.  You need to recharge your batteries too.
  7. Read a good book.  Moms say all the time that they are so busy with the house and the kids that they can’t remember the last time they read a good book.  It’s important to take time for yourself.  Put the kids to bed earlier if you don’t feel like you have any time to get stuff done.  Reading helps keep your mind sharp and lets you feel connected to the outside world.
  8. Take a walk after supper.  Leave the kids with your spouse and take a nice walk after supper.  Let your worries drift away as you enjoy the world around you.  The exercise will help you digest your meal and feel better about yourself.
  9. Enjoy a bubble bath.  Light some candles and turn on some spa music.  You can buy spa CD’s or download songs from the Internet to your MP3 player.  While the water is running add in some bubble bath and essential oil.  If you want to relax add in lavender oil.  If you need to feel invigorated add in grapefruit oil.  Before getting into the tub grab your fluffiest towel and your robe and set them close by.  If you’d like, you can bring in a glass of wine as well.  Climb into the tub and lean back and relax.  Let the stresses of the day flow out of your body.
  10. Meditating can bring back your calm and be the ultimate in pampering yourself.  Sit or lay comfortably in a dark room.  Concentrate on your breathing.  After your breathing has slowed allow your mind to clear. If things that you need to do pop into your mind just gently push them aside and go back to clearing your mind.  Those things will still be there when you are done.

The life of great hero Giuseppe Garibaldi - 9th Part

3) The Roman republic and the death of Anita with his second exile (1849-1858)

On 23 June 1848, after 14 years of absence, Garibaldi lands in Nice with his companions war has already begun.
On 29th of the same month he leaves Nice for Genoa with 150 volunteers. Garibaldi, whose reputation has preceded his coming, offers his sword to the King of Sardinia, while repeating that he is a Republican, anxious at first to fight against the Austrians. Charles Albert was challenged by Democrats who suspect him of wanting to annex the Milanese State, and have not committed when the Austrians were driven out.

When Garibaldi, which has always kept in touch with the Italian patriots, learns the changes taking place in Italy, inauguration of liberal Pope Pius IX, insurgency in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, he is so anxious to get back to Italy, especially as peace seems imminent in Montevideo. He leaves the Italian legion in the hands of Antonio Susin.

In January 1848, Anita returned to Nice with his children followed by Garibaldi in April along with 63 companions while initially 150 men were to follow.

In the late nineteenth century, Montevideo has six streets in the name of the hero and the country has at least five monuments. July 4, 1907, the centenary of the birth of Garibaldi, President José Batlle y Ordóñez decreed a national holiday commemoration in front of 40,000 people. On June 2, 1882, five days before the death of the hero, the Círculo Legionarios Garibaldinos  is created which still exists as an association.

Europe experienced during the year 1848, a series of revolutions by which the people demand more freedom, and is known as the springtime of the peoples. It begins in France and gave birth to the Second Republic, extends to Germany, Romania, Hungary, Poland and Austria. States of the Italian peninsula, the Papal States, Grand Duchy of Tuscany, Sardinia Kingdom of Piedmont are engaged in constitutional reforms. Milan at the "Five Days of Milan", known to turn his insurgent movement against the Austrian Empire which then directs the Lombard-Venetian kingdom created by the Congress of Vienna in 1815. King Charles Albert of Sardinia, were initially supported by some states of the peninsula, taking up the cause of the Milanese state and declares war on Austria.

On 5th of July  our hero goes to  Roverbella  near Mantua, to offer himself as a volunteer with the King Charles Albert, who receives him without enthusiasm and refuses to see him fight alongside the regular army. Garibaldi goes to the provisional government of Milan that made him a General and where  he finds Mazzini. Although there have been exchanges of mail, the atmosphere of the game is cold, the two men are on divergent paths; Mazzini aims unitary republican revolution, Garibaldi wishing to free themselves from Austrian has chosen to put aside, temporarily, the Republican ideas.

Garibaldi must join Brescia with the legion which he organized and which he calls "Battaglione Italiano della Morte" (Italian Battalion of Death) when takes place theCustoza's defeat of Piedmont,   on 25 July. On 9 August 1848, an armistice was concluded between Austria and Piedmont, that Garibaldi violently reproached Charles Albert.

Garibaldi refuses to stop fighting despite the king's order and called on the youth: "Italy needs you ... Hasten, concentrate around me." It gets a little success over the Austrians who decide to destroy them, he must also renounce to face of Austrian power. On August 27, Garibaldi goes to Switzerland and then to France to join Nice. On Harsh, commander of the second Austrian army composed of 20,000 men, is impressed enough to praise him during a meeting with an Italian magistrate, "the man who would powerfully served your cause, you did not recognize: He's Garibaldi. "

In September, Garibaldi was elected Member of Parliament for the college of Cicagna, near Chiavari, he joined Genoa on 26 after passing through various locations throughout the reception was enthusiastic. It follows a period of uncertainty: where to intervene? He decides to join Sicily, changes his mind, and thinks to resist returning to Venice  but when he is on his way, he is informed of  the departure of Pope Pius IX to Gaeta,  and decided to join Rome. Indeed, after having supported the Milanese's, Pius IX turns around and points his troops, causing anger among Italian patriots.

He appoints prime minister Pellegrino Rossi but he's assassinated on November 15, paving the way for the riot, the flight of the Pope and the proclamation of the Roman Republic.

5 Myths About Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins, both as a character in a series of novels by P.L. Travers and as a beloved film role filled by the inimitable Julie Andrews, has long been considered the ideal nanny; so much so that the term “Mary Poppins” has fallen into common usage as a way of describing a real-life nanny with impressive qualifications and a sincere love of children. We, as a society, are so absorbed with the concept of Mary Poppins as the original Super Nanny that we sometimes forget how many things she did that would get a non-fictional nanny fired on the spot, or at least reprimanded. These five traits, as displayed by Mary Poppins in the 1964 film chronicling the exploits of the titular character and her charges Jane and Michael Banks, are just a few of the things that makes her place in perfect-nanny history a bit of a head-scratcher.
1. Parents Are the Enemy – Mary Poppins introduces herself to Mr. Banks after summarily dismissing the competition by basically fooling him into hiring her, setting the tone for the film as one of Mary, Jane, and Michael versus the adult members of the Banks family. Mary consistently speaks to Mr. Banks in a manner that clearly displays her contempt for his workaholic attitude, authoritarian views, and hands-off parenting style. In reality, nannies that actively pit themselves against their employers in a bid to gain their charges’ love and admiration are likely to have a difficult time finding and maintaining a post.

2. Nannies Administer Medicine Whenever They Please – “A Spoonful of Sugar” is an iconic song, even amongst the hundreds of other standouts in the Disney film universe. While the underlying sentiment that unpleasant things can be made tolerable with a pleasant attitude is an admirable one, any professional nanny knows that administering medication without express permission and instructions to do so is a major no-no. Because viewers rarely see Mary Poppins interact with Mr. or Mrs. Banks, it’s easy to assume that they haven’t established the open line of communication that is vital to a healthy, functioning nanny/employer relationship. Mary makes almost all of the decisions regarding the children’s daily lives and welfare, leaving her employers out of the loop and excluded from the lives of their son and daughter.

3. Dangerous or Risky Outings Are All Part of the Fun – Skipping across rooftops, taking tea on the ceiling, and racing cartoon merry-go-round horses is all good fun, but they’re also inherently risky activities. Rather than trying to keep Jane and Michael from danger, Mary Poppins opts to willfully engage in their dangerous games while making a few token efforts to minimize the risk. Nannies in the real world know that a risky outing is also a job hazard, but Poppins behaves true to form by eschewing any rules that her employers might have ostensibly put in place, had she only given them the chance to do so by speaking with them on occasion. By the end of the film, Jane and Michael are left not only heartbroken at the departure of their beloved grown-up playmate, but also with a taste for risky adventure that could prove even more dangerous without her supernatural supervision.

4. Children Should Become Good Friends with Their Nanny’s Boyfriend – Any nanny that’s ever held a post knows that bringing a suitor around her charges regularly and during working hours is a surefire way to end up with no post at all, but Mary Poppins’s probably paramour Bert is an ever-present part of the daily lives of Jane and Michael Banks. Despite the fact that he is a good-hearted, jovial sort, he’s still spending more time with his lady friend’s charges than their parents do.

5. Smug Superiority is an Admirable Quality in a Nanny – Mary Poppins declares herself “practically perfect in every way,” fools the befuddled Mr. Banks into taking his children to work with him with a condescending air of superiority, and often tap dances around the line between “confident” and “cocky.” A professional in any industry is well aware of the importance of maintaining a respectful, courteous tone during interactions with an employer or supervisor, but Mary Poppins seems to have no qualms about lording her perfection over the people that she encounters.

Mary Poppins is one of the most beloved figures in children’s literature and film of all time; the very actions that make her such a darling amongst bookworms and movie lovers, however, are the ones that would almost certainly lead to her abrupt unemployment in the real world. As a valuable lesson about the difference between fiction and real life, Mary Poppins is simply “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!”
