To stop smoking

I smoked for many years. Too many. I still wore shorts trousers and was already rolling  my  first cigarettes, sometimes with tobacco collected in the street from the endcigarettes: it was stuff that could kill a horse.
When I was a kid, my movie and TV idols  were all heavy smokers. Even my father and my elder brothers were smokers. So I started to smoke, too: the cigarette made me feel taller, more mature, more importantly, bigger.

My first pocket money is literally ended up on smoke.

In those days you were unaware of the serious harm of smoking that, not infrequently, leads to death.

Later, in London, I also met other methods and other substances to smoke. I never really went on search of it, but it happened by chance.

Hindsight I think I would avoid even that kind of smoke: it distorts reality, creating emotions, sometimes beautiful, sometimes ugly, but a man has within himself everything, without having to resort to external substances.

I also speak of alcoholic substances, which are  dangerous too, especially if perceived  as an aid to overcome difficult situations or to find a pleasure. I do not make an ideological issue of it, or worse, a fundamentalist crusade, indeed. But I want to say that smoke is dangerous and it's to avoid.

There are now so many methods to help people to stop smoking.
I stopped by force of will, without manuals and without method. But that depends on my training, from my way of being: I always had to do everything myself (well, almost everything, in fact).
I do not make a boast on it, and indeed I regret writing it.  If I could  go back, I probably would open more to others, confessing my weaknesses, asking for help, without lock myself  into my pride, in my shyness, in my fears;  but every man is forged in the environment  which he lives in and while he's in  the waves of life, he looks  for a way to survive without too much rationalism, in an instinctive way.

I am the sixth of eleven children: I found myself in the middle, between older brothers who had to think about themselves and younger siblings whom I have tried to give protection and good example. My parents have been  two great persons ( mother is still alive; father has  left too long ago),  being an example and a reference point, without being oppressive and intrusive (but how could they have been it, even if they wanted?) and they have always left  us free to choose.

Never the less, I personally testify that  the fight against smoking might need  an external help. No more people  should die any more for active smoking, and even less for passive smoking.
Help is needed because the battle against smoking is really difficult to fight.

For two years, after stop smoking,  I dreamed of smoking and woke up sweating in the middle of the night, regretting my stupidity to have started smoking again, and when I discovered that he had just been a dream, I fell asleep again, happy not to have fall back in the coils of the terrible vice.
Never mind if I'm, after having stopped smoking,  fattened twenty pounds (I was an anchovy, when I smoked, I am now a salmon, although not smoked), but it is better this way!

And furthermore I know people who have quit smoking without even fatter than a pound.

Every one has got a flag

And  I remind
those songs
talking of peace
talking of love.
Today I remind them
listening to the radio.

I hear from the news
 that after decades
ball cannons keep flying
and men searching  command
and people keep dying.

But now I don't blame God anymore
for the man's thirst of power
for his greedness of money.

Every one has got a flag of glory
to cover the shame of death
and  make his deads
a right.

Moses' Deeds

A tribute now I pay right away,
and it is that that is due to Moses,
when Egypt became scary and fray,
at the times of  Pharaon Ramses ,
when they increased  as it’s harder to say,
and the  Egyptians felt a risk because,
that they  on arms in case of war,
would have won and escaped furthermore!

And despite of  the very hard jobs,
which the Egyptians had obliged all of them,
instead to decrease their  values,
made more skill and more dangerous men
at the eyes of the same oppressors,
of consequences and of costs regardless,
the Pharaon emanated this edict:
“Be every virile child of the Hebrews
[drowned in the river of Egypt.]

THE PLOT

On the  tribe of  Nure reigns Itzocar, who rose in command twenty years before,  when  his brother Gonario, suddenly died.
In so doing Itzocar has however willfully ignored the rules regarding the succession imposed by ancient tradition , who foresaw the Regency of Gonario’s widow,  Nakigia, at least until the grown age of his son Rumisu, still a child at the time of death of the king Gonario.
Trying to legitimize and strengthen the usurped power Itzocar and authoritative Anù, Member of the Council of elders of Nure, combine a double marriage: Damasu, designed by his father Itzocar to succeed him on the throne, will marry Aristea (who is daughter to deceased King's sister, Alàshia), while Elki, son of Anù  will marry  Gula (daughter of Itzocar).
But Nakigia, widow to Gonario,  who is contrary to weddings, invited to depose the gifts on behalf of Anù, invites the nobles, priests and the people waiting for the awakening of Bithia Priestess ( mother of Iolaus), who has been doing the rite of incubation, waiting for a forseen dream,  to refuse the wedding at least until Bithia’s reveil.
Rumisu, son to deceased King Gonario and to Nakigia , aims to remove Uncle Itzocar in the command , feeling empowered.
While Nakigia exposes his call to wait, Bithia awakens and describes his dream of doom: a Sun swallowed by the Moon(Song of Bitia).
Immediately after bursts on the scene Rumisu accusing Uncle Itzocar to have usurped the command (song of  Rumisu).
At the end of  Rumisu’s song, Damasu enters in defense of his father Itzocar.
The two men fight hand-to-hand.
The winner will be Rumisu. The loser Damasu abandons the village.
Rumisu, ripped the stick and the mantle from his uncle Itzocar, that will follow with his wife Irìsa the defeated son, sits on the throne and invites Aristea to join him at his side.
But Iolaus and Aristea announce their love. And while the people and the guards, let the two lovers pass by, sadly Rumisu will leave the scene defeated by his own lust for power.
The ghost of King Gonario appears to underline the right rules with the song  of Akinta Kamar.
When Gonario goes out of scene, all the people will dance, celebrating the Last Moon, before the sun takes over the power for ever.

(the scene opens to the central square of the nuragic village of Nure. In the background,   a sacred well of nuragic period and in the distance the towers of the village; the half moon   shines in the blue sky; a mixed group  are dancing  a nuragic appropriate dance of good luck wishing at the double promise of marriage between Damasu and Aristea and between Elki and Gula.
The choir will be singing the following air)

Come on, bright and pregnant
Come to the aiming water
Come on, come on, lights from the sky

Itzocar (standing up and beating the sheep’s stick for thrice, calling for silence)
-        People of  Shardana! Listen to me! I, Itzocar, King of Nure, today  I promise by the present announcement the wedding of my son  Damasu with the nice princess  Aristea ((Aristea,  will cover her face with the veil;  later on this sign, soon interpreted as shyness,  will be revealed  a gesture of refusing !)
 And when the Moon is sank  in the sacred well, nobody will be able to deny this promise  I’m doing in front of you; I call everybody as witnesses  as I confirm the promise with the gifts that my wife  Irìsa will pose hereafter in the well;

Irìsa (she stands solemnly up and goes to put the presents by the sacred well; then one ancill will give her a veil whom with she will tie one the couples)
-         You will be tied together for all your life, in luckiness and sadness! For ever and ever!

Anù (leaving the priest’s assembly will repeat the same Itzocar’s words, inviting Nakigia, being him a widower, to deal the bribes)
-         And I, Anù, Mayor between the Mayors of  Nure, announcing and  pronouncing  the weddings of my son  Elki with the beloved king’s Itzocar daughter , the nice Gula(he will stare at  Gula  who according to tradition will hide her own face with the veil) and because I’m a widower it’s up to the first Priestess Nakigia to present the gifts in front of the people!

Nakigia ( she will solemnly occupy the center stage, which will be promptly released,   but without taking any the gifts of  Anù and leaving drop off the veil brought to her for tieing the other couple ).
         - Is not that the way we used to present our weddings in the sacred well of Garlo in this country! Not even for the ancient habits  and not really while our priestess  Bithia   is still consulting our Gods! (everybody will turn towards the sacred tub of prediction where Bithia is staying, while the heads and the priests shall lift buzz of discontent and protests; but the protest stops while leaping from  the sacred cavern from which Bithia, cataplexy, comes, sustained  by the vestals to occupy the center stage  and  begins to sing)

What life is for

Scene II
(At local police station- Inspector Green’s Office)
(Inspector Green and two policemen)

Insp. Green
-Are you sure then???

First Pm
-Yes, boss! Our deep throat says our two men, Vincent and Norman,  have already received the stuff from Jamaica!

Second Pm (mocking an improbable advertising spot)
-One hundred pounds of very tasteful Jamaican grass!!

Insp. Green (whistling by surprise)
-Fucking hell!!! What bloody channel do they get  such an amount of stuff through???

First Pm
-Our informer does not know it yet!!!

Second Pm
-On the other hand which advantage we’ll  get if we stop these supplies?!?

Insp.  Green (paying the right attention)
-What do you exactly mean by that?

First Pm (after changing a mutual understanding glance with his colleague)
-Do you know how much is worth that stuff out there???

Insp. Green
-‘don’t know….. may be a forty quid each pound…..

First Pm
-Which   sums up to four thousand fucking pounds…a lot of money, ain’t it?

Insp.  Green (smelling a rat)
-You mean it’s a shame burning such a great amount of money, don’t you?

First Pm (smiling shrewdly)
-As matter of fact it’s a  legal offence even burning a single banknote!

Second Pm
-I know an American lad who cuts the grass off from his garden each time they seize this kind of  drugs…..

First Pm
…….and he mixes a quarter of marjhuana with three quarters of his grass up to make the seized quantity….

Second Pm
……He swears that the incinerator’s guys smell   properly those  burned goods !
First Pm
-Of course, three thousand pounds are to be shared in three parts…

Insp. Green (approving)
-Do we know  where is stashed the stuff?

First Pm
-Not yet, sir!  But we know for sure that Vincent and Norman will start selling the stuff today, right in the afternoon!!

Second Pm
-In order to get rid of it in the shortest time, they  plan  to deliver it to single customers all in a day, carrying the stuff in the car!

Insp. Green
-Do we know the car they will use for delivers? Must be a big one!!

First Pm
            - Yes sir, it’s a van!  Unfortunately  they change it every time, but we know the  address and     the right time of the first deliver!!

Second Pm
-We know that one of them waits in the van while the other goes for delivering…

First Pm
-….. so we can catch him while delivering the stuff…

Second Pm
-…. And promise to him   safety  if he leads up straight to the van waiting outside!

Insp. Green
-Excellent, boys! Where’s planned their first deliver then?

First Pm ( handing him a note in a  paper after reading it)
-At five o’clock in a  flat of  Hampstead,  belonging to such a Mr Sailor, Anthony Sailor!

Insp. Green (standing up, followed by the two guys)
-We will be there right for tea-time!!!

First Pm
– Of course we will!!

Second Pm
-And we‘ll make a very nice infuse, won’t we??
