The Poem of Creation

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0181HCMKY

Hereafter the lights in the sky He set

Doing the moon and the sun for night and day,

And other signs and stars in dose correct,

for making years and seasons going away,

For the Most High is much more than perfect

And furthermore of this I cannot say!

About this seventh stanza therefore

I will not tell you nothing anymore!

“Fly off all birds”- said God- “freely in the air

And splash in to the  sea any kind of fish;

Graze lambs, calves and livestock everywhere

In grassy lawns that will never languish;

Grow up any reptiles fair and unfair,

living beings either monstrous or polish!”

After the earth had all animals found

God said to them to multiply around.

And finally God said: - “ Let’s make  the man

In our image and likeness, every

And each animal to lead on  command!”

After doing that He rested quietly.

Henceforward, after six days, on the land

men, on the seventh, stay steady Godly,

being it consecrated for prairie and rest,

Both the last hours and also the first!

But the Creation was not yet complete

Still being missed the breath of the Animator

Who into a giant can transform a bit!

Waters from earth going up by Creator

To mist all over the ground were admit

So could mould the man God the Great Factor

and by that divine blow the man was made

though lonely however, he sadly stayed.

The Poem of Creation

Prologue

I sing the God Almighty’s Creation

Whereof were firstly born Adam and Eve

former seed of any human Nation

at the time they could only conceive

the joyfulness with no desperation

In the Eden still so far to receive

The challenge of that infernal snake

Who wanted to be a godlike fake!

I also sing about the brave men strays,

Straight descendents  from that chosen race,

who such in boldly and daring ways

Isr’eli people to holy surface

They led of Palestine. Hates, loves betray’ls

I don't omit, on fortune and disgrace:

those between God and men, tribes and  kingdoms ;

and I sing laws , exiles and wars into my songs.

Arduous so much however it ‘s my part,

long and full of traps my composition,

That plenty of fear I feel into my heart,

if only I dare to think myself on action,

and tremble with my hand before I start

The Old and   the New Holy Narration!

My Fairy God, You Firmament’s Creator

Allow  me to become a keen narrator!

From Genesis’ to Apocalypse’s book

please drive my hand between rhymes and accents

to enable  jointly with my mind, to hook

the most significant, deep, true  sentiments

in order they can take a fairly look

of those seventy three, pious components!

If someone goes to Source for sweeter tasting

all my efforts for sure I won’t be wasting!

The World’s Creation

At the beginning God created the sky

And the earth, which was shapeless and desert

And darkness cover’d the abysses close by;

But on the waters, with divine, expert

Zeal, God established that obscurity

Had to be opened to the bright alert!

God, seeing that it was good, called Day the light.

And the darkness instead was named Night.

Then beneath the waters, the firmament

set God, and between them, b’low, the dry land

He also set, whither at same moment,

To any bud and tree He gave command

From seed to be produc’d for nourishment

Of any species, in ground, soil or sand!

After He had named sky, earth and sea

To following duty God had to begin.

The alabaster jar

From Saint Matthew's Gospel
Chapter 26
VV 6-13

One day Jesus was in Bethany,  with Simon
The leper.  While they had been sitting
at table,  a woman came with the intention
To wash  Jesus's hair, with one of those perfumes
known for their big value!
The  disciples didn't like it however:

-         “If she didn't have so quickly
broken the jar of alabaster with  the ointments
it kept inside, we would have sold it, for three hundred
and more guineas, and given to  unhappy poor men!”

The complaint   reached the ear of Jesus who said:

“Why are you upsetting this woman?
What she has done for me is indeed a nice thing!
As for the poorest, with your zeal
You will always be able, with good actions,
to help them, but you will not always have me.
When she poured this ointment on my body,
she did it to prepare me for burial.
In truth I tell you, whatever space will find my Gospel,
what she has done will be told as well,

in remembrance of her.

The rotten sentries

Chapter 28
VV 11-15

While Magdalene and the other Mary
Were  still on their way,
the soldiers of the Temple, sentries in the garden
where had been buried The Messiah,
reported the account to  the Sanhedrin!

They soon forgathered and decided
To give  the sentries a good amount of  money
Telling them to report as follows:

- “You will say that at night
His disciples came
to take the  Jesus body away,
while you were asleep!”

This way it was that the corrupted sentries
narrated such a gossip to the Jews!

Amazed by Jesus

I was a shepherd
longtime ago
somewhere in Bethlehem
watching my sheeps

Though I was waiting
for Someone to come
I could believe
only my sight

Then I saw a light
sparkling 'n  the sky
I heard a voice
singing with joy

I joined the star
aimed to see
the Glory of God
the King of glee

 I'm still astonished
looking today
 as Jesus wanted
choosing to stay

The least of poorness
 neatness of magic
 plenty with nothingness
the brilliance of love

Please leave me Jesus
the eyes of a child
looking  the Crib
wondering while.

Ancient law and new law

From Chap. 5th of Saint Mathew's Gospel
VV 21-24

You have heard that was said
to ancient people: “you won't kill;and he
who  kills, will be subject to trial!”

Therefore don't kill anymore!
But I tell you that will be sue
whoever motions against

his brother; and who says stupid
 or crazy to him

 will burn forever
 in the Geènna!
you better leave

on the altar your  supply and go
to make peace with your brother!
After you can offer your donation!

The devil tempts Jesus in the desert

From Chapter 4 of Saint Mathew's Gospel
VV 1-11

In that time the Spirit pushed
Jesus in the desert where the demon
Proved Him. For forty days resisted

Jesus Christ, with fast and preaches,
the hunger and the thirst! Then He was hungry.
-    “Why don't you turn in flour of mintage

these stones?” The weaver of lusts
said! –“Not only of bread lives
the man, but of every word which

comes from God it's written!” -, Jesus answered!
He was conducted to the Temple of the City

and Satan still tried Him: - “Throw yourself down,
and ask your angels to hold  You up
because it's written he doesn't have to bump against a stone
his foot'”–“Between the true writings

there is”–Jesus answered to  Satan–
“Don’t try your God and your Lord!”
Again Belzeboo, above the tallest rock

conducted him, tempting Him again.
He showed all the kingdoms of the world to Him,
with their glory and their honor

and  said: “If you worship me
all these things I will give to you!”
But Jesus answered: “Go away dirty thing!

It's written  that You'll worship only Your God
And only to Him you will make your cult!”
Then the devil had  to surrender,

going away without anymore insult.
And the angels approached Him
serving Him of any need!

The first four apostles

From Chapter 4 of Saint's Mathew Gospel
VV 18-22

-    “Follow me, I will make
-     fishermen of you !” –It was this way
that Jesus, walking along the galilean sea
choosed two couples of brothers:
James and Jhon with Peter and Andrew,
who were fishing with their parents;
but they left nets and boats behind them
 for following Jesus!

Titus Lucretius Carus - II

Since ever manhood,  on their reflections on life,  has been wondering the reasons why we were born and the reasons why we must suffer.

Lucretius in his fith book of  " de rerum natura" praises Epicurus for his endeavors  to cut out religion from human life.

When I was younger I thought that religion was just a way to dominate the men: a toil in the hands of the priests to control men's life; exactly what Epicurus said in the third millennium B.C. and Lucretius quotes in his masterpiece "de rerum natura".
According to Epicurus men must search for happyness; to do with this they must not fear death; as matter of fact, says the great greek philosopher , when a man is alive,  is not conscious of death; and when is dead, he cannot realize death.
The fear of Death is the key for superstions, passions and all the other conditioning of life.
Epicurus says that Gods do not exist and  men must search for happyness regardless of gods.

Then I found out my faith in God: in the truly, unique, God; and I have found Him out through the life, the words, the example of His Son, Jesus, who descended in the earth wearing clothes of man.

I know that my faith is not a rational answer to thoughts like those of Epicurus (and even those of Lucretius), but faith is not a result of reasoning; faith is a search of reasons: reasons of life, of suffering, of happiness...

On the other hand Epicurus, like most of ancient greek philosophers may consider to be illuministic thinkers (in an ante litteram sense) and to them can be told what theologists  have answered to Illuminism since 18th century A.D.(this is not the right place to undertake such an ardous task).

I don't want to diminish the value of their concepts against mines: I instead take much respect on their ideas though I can't share them in the light of God.

It must be said that probably western thinking must never approached even the religious thruths it now accepts, without such great contributes from greek and roman Writers.

Angelo Ruggeri, a bright scholar on classic studies, in his critique and analysis of Lucretius masterpiece, declares the powerlessness of Epicurus's thought against harmness and sufference in human life.
In his own words, he asks : "does the universe of Epicurus  really remove fears from human mind, enabling a happy life?" (I'll to try to give an answer, with the help of Angelo Ruggeri in a next post).
I present in the end of my post an English translation of some verses from Lucretius'  masterpiece's  Book VI, wich is one of the praises that the roman poet dedicates to his greek mentor through out all the six books.
About these verses Angelo Ruggeri himself explains:
"As in a system of tyranny who is defending its own just rights, defends the rights of all, so in this  society of dissatisfied individuals, who manages to be happy and teaches others the way to be such , shall cooperate to the happiness of all. The Roman poet Lucrezio placed the Greek philosopher Epicurus among the Gods  for having proposed this order."

Praise to Epicurus - from Book V - VV 1-51
English Version by Angelo Ruggeri

Who ever could have so much strength in the heart

to raise a song worthy of the  grandiosity

of the things treated and of the wonderful discoveries?

Or have so much value to be able with words

to compose a praise worthy of the merits

of the one who left us gifts so wanted ,

drawing  them from his own mind?

None I think, who is made of mortal body.

In fact, if we want to use words worthy

of the acknowledged grandiosity of the work

he was a God, noble  Memmius, a God certanly

he who first found the rule of life that today is called wisdom

and by means of this art, pulled the life from the darkness

of a stormy sea, and raised it in a quiet and enlightened place.

Compare this exploit with those of ancient Gods.

Cerere is said to have given harvest to mortals,

Bacco  the strong  and sweet juice  of the vine:

indeed we could live without those goods,

as it is fame that  live  some people,

but we cannot live happy without a  quiet heart ;

therefore with a just reason we think he is a God

who has taught us the comfort of sweet life

that even today, disseminated among men,

cheer up minds.

If you then thought that the undertakings of Ercole

are of greater value, you’re ages ago from the truth.

What evil could make us today the  Nemeus lion

with its big mouth or the terrible wild boar Arcadius?

What harm could make us the bull  of Creta

or  the pestiferous Hydra  of Lerna fitted with poisonous snakes?

Or the  trebled strength of Gerione  provided of three bodies?

What evil would do us  today the Harpies

who live in the Stinfali woods or  Diomede’s horses

which in Bistonia and in Ismaro blows flames from their nostrils?

What  harm could  do us the snake

wrapped around the tree with the enormous

body and the fierce look which guards

the splendid  golden apples  in the garden of Esperidi,

at the beaches of Atlas and the  stormy sea where nobody,

Roman and barbarian do ever  approach?

These and similar monsters, now disappeared,

had them not been won and still lived

what evil could make us today? None I think:

even today the earth abounds up to satiety

of fierce beasts and  it is full of appalling

terrors within the great mountains,

the canyons and the deep forests,

but we are not forced to go there if we do not want.

But if the heart is not pure,  how many  dangers

creep  in and how many inside battles

there are preparing  against our will!

How many  pungent anxieties tear man

invaded by passions, and then how many fears!

And the pride, the dishonesty, the presumption,

what they  do? How many massacres do!

What does shamelessness ,  what  apathy?

The man thus, who  has beaten all these evil

and thrown them out of the soul with the words,

not with the weapons, do not deserve  to be put among Gods?

From St Mathew's Gospel

VV 31-32
The Marriage

It was also said: - “If someone doesn't want anymore
His bride, has to compile
The act of repudiation”

“But he who the sponsal chain breaks out
getting  married with another woman"
-Jesus added-"commits adultery."

And this is no good at the eyes of God.

After St John 6, 51-58

Quatrains ABAB

“ I’m the living bread from heaven
If anyone eats of this bread
He’ll live for ever and ever.
This bread is my flesh which instead

I’ll give for the life of the world”
Then the Jews began to argue
Sharply among themselves: “ How could
This man give us his flesh to eat?”

The Son of Man told: “ I’ tell you
The truth, unless you eat Jesus’s
Flesh and drink His blood, you have no
Life in yourself. Whoever eats

My flesh and drinks  my blood he has
Eternal life and I will raise
Him up at the last day. Because
My flesh is real food and my blood’s

Real drink. Whoever eats my flesh
And drinks my blood remains in me
And I in him. Just as the fresh
Father sent me I’m living

Because of the Father, so those
Who feed on me will live grace for
Of me. This is the bread not close
To that manna eaten by your

Forefathers whose life did render
This bread came down from heaven and
Who feeds it will live for ever
Each pity through It being emend!

CARPE DIEM

The maxim "Carpe diem" has currently risen to a different meaning from the original Horace's lyric poet of the Carmina.
As matter of fact Horace's dialogue to the young Leuconoe is not an invitation to enjoy blindly the life, but is better a call to live the possible happyness that the incertainty of our life can offer to us (carpe diem: quam minimum credulo postero).
In this point of view "carpe diem" accords with the right meaning contained in Saint Mathew's Gospel (Chapter 6, 25-31) with which Jesus invites us to live today without the ambush for tomorrow.
So we can say, with Novalis that the great latin poet, Horace was the real priest-poet.

What is the Truth?

Pontius Pilate - So, you are the Jews’ King?
Jesus - Do You Know it by yourself
Or someone else has told you?
P. Pilate- Why have your friends
Committed me, a no-believer, to judge on you?
Jesus - My servants could have fight with the arms
Opposing my arrest. But my Reign is not down here!
P. Pilate- Then you deserve a throne?
Jesus- I’m a King. You’ve told it!
Indeed I was born for two aims:
To be witness of the Truth and to die
For the Resurrection!”
P. Pilate- But what is the Truth?

Nice Christmas

I wish everybody a very nice Christmas and a Happy New Year!
