and I didn’t feel  hunger nor thirst

Every single person

were you

The Twin  Lovers

 

I used to greet you

At ten to nine

 

We left each other

Rightly half way

Between the twin towers

 

We both work

At the 87.th floor

You in the norther

Me in the souther

 

Ten minutes

For the lift

To get me up

And see you again

Through the windows

Of the twin towers

 

But on that 9/11

I had  to wait

Twenty minutes,

Twenty long  horrible

Bloody minutes

Watching the smoke,

The flames,

The hell!

 

And now we rejoined

For ever

As powder and ashes

In  God’s Heaven!

                                                                                                         

Thank you Lords

It  invites us to a serious reflection the amendment the Lords have inserted in  the Brexit bill in order to protect three millions of EU citizens, working and living in UK, after Artcle 50 is triggered.

What I expected  was to be done by the  House of Commons It has been done instead by the House of Lords.

It is a widespread belief, even abroad, that  Lords are  people of privileges,  living in the past,  insensitive and rich enough to snub all the rest of the world, indifferent to anybody'else problems.

I don't know if that's true.

What I know for sure it's that yesterday 358 (against 256) of them vote an amendment to secure the acquired rights of 3 millions of EU citizens living in UK.

But why such a vote is surprising?

I'll try to answer this question.

In my opinion as the Commoners were afraid  to lose the political consent by the voters, they voted, on both fronts (tories and labs) giving carte blanche to Government on Brexit bill.

The sad truth is that inspite we rant about democracy, a forum of no elected people (The Lords, as matter of fact) remember the world, with their amendment,  the real basis of morality and principles of human rights.

And in times of trumps, lepens and various despots, pushed by blind populism, it's not really a poor thing.

And anyway, I told you  various times that London is forever. 

London for ever

You can say what you want about London; That's too chaotic is true; the wheather is not good for most of the year along; the pollution, specially in the central areas is still at an high level,  and the cost of the life, well, leave off 'cause is much better.

Nevertheless London plays a very strong appeals for a lot of people,  if is true, as it is true, that its population is all the time increasing; you can see buldings yards everywhere, expanding the borders of the town ever and ever.

And so, why is London a place of so much interest?

Well I cann't be very impartial answering the question 'cause London for me represents a  special place of the memory.

I've lived there when I was a young man. Nothing out of ordinary. But in those far years I found there a shelter for my troubled soul; there I found a job: very hard at the beginning but lighter and brighter with the  increasing of experience.

London is a great mother, strict but fair, who receives anyone and pays to anyone his own tribute.

I've been there in the past few days, after almost four decades from my first journey.

It has been exciting to be in again.

Though I'm another man now, so different from that young boy full of dreams, naive and idealist, who searched at the time a inexistent  world, I must recognise that London is still a beatiful town.
